Homeschool Science Lessons Inspired By Cooking

The kitchen is really a special purpose chemistry lab. Cooking from a recipe teaches technique as children learn to measure and combine ingredients and provide heat to make reactions happen. As a homeschool science lesson, children can learn about the basic chemistry that happens when eggs are cooked, quick and yeast breads rise, and baking soda and vinegar are combined.

Combining some class time with hands-on cooking will not only provide a complete lesson, but encourage students to modify recipes and test their understanding of the principles involved. Younger students can enjoy a simpler lesson using basic skills to make material for art projects with no heat or eating involved. More info: Homeschool Science
